Friday Freebies

Happy Friday!! I wanted to share a few items that were freebies from Teachers Pay Teachers that I use in my classroom and love!

First are my Classroom Hand Signal Posters from Jessica Travis (Wild About Firsties). Oh the joys of being right in the middle of a lesson and one of your sweet little students raises their hand (or blurts out) saying they need to go to the restroom, or they need a pencil. Or you are in the middle of teaching small group and a sweetie comes to you asking the same thing or a question about the work they are doing. Well, I’ve always had my students use hand signals and sign language for these types of questions, but what better way to enforce it than to display these hand signal posters so that the students never forget what each sign means. I love using hand signals for things such as this because it cuts down on interruptions, and we all hate those because it causes you and the students to get off track, which we all know could be a disaster if not handled properly.

I LOVE these picture directions from A Cupcake for the Teacher!  For students, especially first graders, remembering what to do for center work, daily work, etc. can be hard without anything to go by to help you stay on track. These picture directions are perfect for my first graders. I have them numbered and posted on my board to help my students remember what they need to do to complete their center work. This also helps cut down questions from students about their work. My students know not to come to  my teacher table unless it’s an emergency or they have a hand signal ready anyway, but they are really helpful and not to mention super cute which is a huge plus in my book.

I needed some cute, large numbers to go on my wall. I ran across these Bright, Scrappy Numbers from Graphics From the Pond. Cutting them all out wasn’t fun, but I think they make a bright contribution to my wall, and my students are always looking at them to help solve math problems. If it helps my students, I am all for it.

My last freebie are my Through the Year Calendar Headers by Maria Manore Gavin. I needed a set of months to display on my wall for students to see and these were perfect. I have a cute calendar set that I ordered and have it up on one of my bulletin boards, but I couldn’t fit all of the months on the board. I can only display the actual month we are in. Now, my students know what month we are in by looking at our calendar, and they can also always see all of the months of the year as well.

What are some good freebies that you have found lately?!

Fall Must-Haves

Since we are not so patiently awaiting the arrival of fall, our favorite season, we thought we would share a few “must haves” for the season. We have each of these in our wardrobe and definitely couldn’t live (or dress ourselves) without them!

Ashley’s Must-Haves

The first item is a J.Crew Factory Quilted Puffer Vest. This one, as well as a few other puffer vests, resides in my closet. I love the puffer vests because you can easily dress them up with a button up or solid colored/patterned long-sleeved tee and a scarf underneath, or dress them down with a long sleeved t-shirt, leggings and bean boots! I want to wear my vests everyday!

Another must have are the J.Crew Factory Skinny Cords (or any cords for that matter.) I own a variety of colors and love pairing them with my puffer vests or chunky sweaters and booties! I’m so excited for fall! Ready for this blazing hot weather to be gone!

Update: I am on month two of my three month “no shopping binge!” I can proudly say I have not bought a single piece of clothing (jewelry and accessories included) and I feel great! My goal is (when I am able to purchase items) to only buy things that will be a classic piece in my wardrobe and that will last. The two must-haves I mentioned today are the perfect example of that! I’ve had these items for years and they are still in style and in perfect condition! πŸ˜ƒ

Jess’s Must-Haves

I love L.L. Bean boots. I cannot stress it enough. Not only did I wear them about everyday last fall/winter, I probably wore them a little longer than is socially appropriate (cough…a few days into spring). I can’t wait to break them out again. They are great to wear with skinny jeans and vest or with leggings and a long shirt.

One piece I can’t wait to wear is my new poncho from Loft. I’m a little obsessed with this new trend, but I haven’t been able to wear mine yet. Come on fall! It will definitely be cozy when the days become cooler.

What are you looking forward to wearing this fall?!

Feelin’ Patriotic: Student Council Voting Booth

Thinking back on when I was in middle school, I know I was a classroom representative at least one year. And from what I remember of that time wielding that sacred position, other than attending some meetings, I did absolutely nothing. It was almost like it was a made-up position to make the ones who didn’t get an elected officeΒ feel a little bit better about themselves. Which that very well could have been the case.

When I became the advisor for the student council at my school this year, I wanted each position the students held to be of importance and for them to contribute to the club in some way. I also wanted the students to view the positions as a big deal in our school. So, with the help of the lovely people over at Pinterest, I wanted to start the election process off with a bang by creating our own voting booth.

My grandpa graciously brought me a refrigator box to school one day, and with the help of a fellow teacher, wrapped it up in red butcher paper. Then, I taped red, white, and blue streamers to the front to create a β€œdoor” and stuck a desk inside for the students to write on. So easy and simple, and the students loved it!

I would love to hear the ideas you are doing with your own student council!
