I finished reading We Were Liars by E. Lockhart on my beach trip a few weeks ago. The setting seemed fitting since it is also set on the beach during the summer months. Cadence Sinclair Easton comes from a very wealthy family who gathers on their family-owned island in Cape Cod every summer. Cadence tells stories about her and her cousins, Johnny and Mirren, and her good friend, Gat. She refers to them all as “the liars.” One summer, Cadence suffers from a mysterious accident, and she spends the course of this book trying to remember what happens. I actually got to the point of thinking, “Cadence is crazy!” but then when you begin to read the ending, you shockingly begin to understand just what happened and realize maybe she isn’t so crazy. I still find myself saying, “Ohhhh, that’s why she said that,” or “That’s why that happened!” This book is definitely one that you have to read the whole thing before you begin to somewhat understand the situation. And I am afraid that is all I can tell you…but there is more to this book than you think!
If you have read this book, what are your thoughts?!
