Calligraphy Workshop

One of my favorite classes in high school was art. I did pretty well with painting and it took me forever to complete a Snoopy grout assignment, but I completed it. However, there was one thing that I could not get the hang of… calligraphy. No matter how hard I tried, I could not get the pen to do what I wanted. Fast forward ten years later and I still haven’t bested the calligraphy pen, but I really wanted to take a class. So this past Sunday, I finally attended a workshop that I have been looking forward to for months in Nashville by Ashley Buzzy. She has her own calligraphy and letterpress business in Atlanta, Georgia, and teaches workshops all over the country. I tried to get in one of her Atlanta classes, but it literally sold out in thirty minutes! This lady is crazy talented! She made it look so easy, until you started to practice yourself. It took me awhile, but I eventually started to get the hang of it. I began to feel pretty confident in myself, until I looked to my right. My table mate was blowing me out of the water! She was awesome. I’m pretty sure she had done this before. Then, I snagged a look at some of the other students’ work. Equally awesome. I think they were all in this together. They all appeared to be advanced or semi-professionals. Even though there was a conspiracy going on, Ashley was a great, hands-on teacher and supplied us all with calligraphy tools and other goodies (here, here, and here)! I can’t wait to start practicing!

The workshop was held at this cool spot, Deavor.

What calligraphy classes have you been to? Have you been to any other types of creative classes? Which ones!?
